Journey to Romania

Our journey to Romania took a few days. We drove through the Czech Republic. The whole route was on country roads that are not subject to tolls. It took a little longer, but we saw a lot of the country.

In the Czech Republic we visited the military cemetery in Jihlava. It was impressive to see how well-kept the final resting place of many soldiers still is today. The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. does a great job and it is so important for the relatives to know that the graves are well looked after.

Then we continued towards Brno. We spent a night at a historic site: the area where Napoleon defeated the alliance of Austria and Russia in the Battle of Austerlitz on December 2, 1805.

From there, we continued on the country road to Slovakia.
After arriving in Slovakia – where we enjoyed the great highway – and a visit to Liptovski Mikuláš, we continued via Kosice. After Hungary, we crossed a very small border crossing and continued on country roads to Romania in the direction of Satu Mare (Sathmar).
